Talampaya · Ischigualasto

Talampaya · Ischigualasto

Talampaya · Ischigualasto (Provinces of San Juan and La Rioja)

One of the most spectacular combinations in northern Cuyo: prehistoric landscapes, unique geological formations, reddish canyons, and the best starting point for the Ischigualasto Provincial Park (“Valley of the Moon”). Ideal for geology enthusiasts, families, photographers, and travelers seeking unspoiled nature.

TALAMPAYA (UNESCO World Heritage Site)
  1. Talampaya Canyon (Main Loop): By special park vehicle. Highlights: 150-meter-high rock walls, the Cathedral, the Canyon Gate, the Monk, the Totem, the gorge.
  2. Shimpa Canyon: Narrower, wilder, and less visited. Highly recommended.
  3. Bike tour through the canyon: An unforgettable experience – magical light and profound silence.
  4. Triassic Trail: Guided hike exploring the region’s paleontology.

ISCHIGUALASTO (San Juan Provincial Park):  Although bordering Talampaya, the landscape is different: more lunar, grayer, and more geologically rich.
  1. Classic 40-kilometer drive (3 hours).
  2. Full Moon Night Hike (if conditions permit): A completely transformed landscape – one of the most beautiful moonlit hikes in the country.
  3. Cerro Morado Trail: A short hike with panoramic views of the entire “Valley of the Moon.”
  4. New Museum + Interpretation Center
